On the Career Day students will be able to meet more than 90 business representatives

On the Career Day students will be able to meet more than 90 business representatives

On 2 March 2017 in Kipsala, more than 90 representatives of companies operating in various economic sectors will take part in the Career Day of Riga Technical University (RTU) presenting their offers to students – potential employees and trainees. The Career Day of RTU will be organized for the 14th time and it is the largest event devoted to student career and practice related issues in Latvia, which over the years has helped students start or develop their professional career.

Students of RTU and other Latvian higher education institutions are invited to participate in the Career Day. They will have an opportunity to get acquainted with the companies’ representatives, get to know future career or internship opportunities, company specifics, requirements and prerequisites for employees, as well as other issues. Representatives of companies will organize diverse activities for students, such as competitions, tests and career consultations.

To conduct successful negotiations with potential employers on the Career Day, RTU Career Centre recommends students to take along their CV. “CV is the first contact with a potential employer and it also makes a first impression. Consultation is the opportunity to get “outside view”, which can help adjust CV for a particular vacancy or simply change the details one can miss,” said Viktorija Gaina, RTU Career Centre Consultant. It will be possible to receive recommendations for improving CV on 6, 13, 20 and 27 February from 9.30 am to 7.00 pm, consulting with the specialist of the Career Centre at the Student Service Center, Azenes Str. 6 or by sending CV to e-mail: Viktorija.Gaina@rtu.lv.

RTU Career Day has earned wide recognition both among students and businesses. The Career Day held in March 2016 was attended by almost 2,000 students and represented by 90 companies operating in 28 different sectors. Many visitors gave positive feedback about the necessity of the Career Day.

The forecasts made by the Ministry of Economics prove that in the labor market there is already a lack of engineers and high-tech professionals; therefore, RTU students and graduates are in high demand within the labor market. Employability of RTU graduates in the labor market is also highly appreciated by international experts; in “QS Stars” university rankings under the graduate employment category RTU has been awarded the highest rating – five stars. According to the results of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2016–17 published in September 2016, RTU cooperation with industries and businesses was also highly assessed.

RTU Career Day is supported by Ltd. Atea Global Services, Ltd. Lattelecom, State Ltd. Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre. Provision of Information is supported by career and education portal Ltd. Prakse.lv, Ltd. CVO Recruitment Latvia, Ltd. CV-Online Latvia.

RTU Career Day will be held on Thursday, 2 March 2017 from 10 am to 4 pm at the International Exhibition Centre in Kipsala, Riga, Kipsala Str. 8.
